Church of Migliari

The sanctuary, a site of Marian worship since the Middle Ages, was built by Giovanni Acuto, lord of the castle of Migliari. Upon his death, according to his will, the property passed to the Florentine Republic, which over time appointed rectors through the captains of the Guelph faction. Even today, the church at the summit of a hill remains a destination for pilgrims and devotees of the image of Mary. Unfortunately, the original image, dating back to the 15th century, was stolen in the 1960s and has since been replaced by an image blessed by Pope John Paul II.

Inside the church, on the left wall, there is a painting featuring the faces of 281 young men from the surrounding parishes who were called to arms in 1942. With this gesture, they sought grace and protection from the Madonna of Migliari.
